Japanese public broadcaster NHK released video of a Japan Airlines aircraft catching fire on Tuesday night as it touched down on a runway at Tokyo’s Haneda airport.
In the video, the runway was also on fire, and flames could be seen shooting out of the aircraft’s windows and below it.
According to authorities cited by NHK, the aircraft, which had taken off from Sapporo, collided with a coast guard plane. All 379 passengers and crew members on board were evacuated.
The airline stated, “We are currently assessing the extent of the damage,” as per an NHK report.
According to the BBC, Japan Airlines Flight 516 was due to land at Haneda at 17:40, having taken off at 16:00 local time (07:00 GMT) from New Chitose airport.
As smoke and flames pour out of the plane, many fire trucks can be seen responding to the area in the TV footage.
Furthermore, Reuters reports that one of the five Japanese Coast Guard personnel on board the Coast Guard aircraft managed to flee, leaving the other four missing.
