Due to warm weather in Scotland and greater nighttime temperatures, last month’s May was the hottest on record for the UK. The average temperature was just slightly higher than usual.
However, the temperature has fallen in June after just over a week.

According to David Schultz, a professor of synoptic meteorology at the University of Manchester, “it seems like we’re one to three degrees below normal for this time of year,” as reported by the News.

The Met Office reports that starting at noon on Sunday, the temperature in the UK ranged from 10 to 17 degrees Celsius.

This time of year, average temperatures typically range from 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Despite being “average or slightly below,” this weekend felt colder due to the showers and breeze, according to Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna.

The jet stream, a core of powerful winds located four to seven miles above the Earth’s surface, has changed, which is what is responsible for the temperature dip.

Nearer the surface, these winds have an effect on the weather. The jet stream is currently arriving from the northwest and is oriented further south than typical.
