DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the supremo of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), has alluded to the possibility of forging an electoral alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the upcoming general elections, which are set for February 8. This comes as political groups are working hard to gain each other’s trust.

Speaking to reporters in DI Khan on Tuesday, he claimed that the PML-N’s rule had brought about growth and prosperity for the nation. In order to better the nation, Fazl continued, his religio-political party is prepared to collaborate with the Nawaz Sharif-led organization.

The leader of JUI-F, who was also in charge of the multi-party coalition that headed the previous government, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), stated that this would not be the first time the two parties ran together in elections.

He added that all political parties had always honored each other’s mandates, with the exception of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), whose mandate was universally disapproved of.

Maulana Fazl has once again expressed skepticism about the holding of the most anticipated polls, stating that the election organizers would face significant difficulties if they were unable to set up polling places because of the cold.

He continued, saying that low voter turnout following such setbacks would invite electoral tampering.

He also criticized Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Turkistan Party and the former prime minister, for upending the nation’s political, diplomatic, and economic underpinnings with his administration’s removal through a no-confidence resolution in April 2022.

He also accused the previous administration of handing over control of the nation’s main financial institutions to the Washington-based lender, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which included the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The head of JUI-F continued by declaring that he would not return to fighting against state institutions and that weak institutional linkages would cause further crises rather than put the nation on the path to progress.
