ISLAMABAD: The Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2024, which seeks to create the Pakistan Digital Authority and National Digital Commission as well as to guarantee paperless governance and the digitization of the country’s economy, received primary approval from the federal cabinet on Tuesday.
The cabinet directed the law ministry to study the Act, which also aims to digitize the services industry in accordance with international norms, at the meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the Act, the prime minister will lead the National Digital Commission, which would be a policy-making body with both federal and provincial members.
In order to carry out the goals, the Act also calls for the establishment of the Pakistan Digital Authority, a corporate body with administrative and financial independence.
The cabinet was briefed by Prime Minister Sharif on his recent visit to China, which included his talks regarding the second phase of CPEC-II with Premier Li Qiang and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He mentioned that in order to strengthen bilateral collaboration, a high-level Chinese delegation is anticipated to visit Pakistan.
