ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) gave a district and sessions court the task of deciding on the appeals requesting a 10-day suspension of former prime minister Imran Khan’s and his wife Bushra Bibi’s sentences in the iddat case.
The IHC additionally mandated that the court make a decision on the pleas contesting the couple’s conviction in the aforementioned case within a month.
The development occurs during the hearing of Khan and Bushra’s numerous pleas before Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
Khan’s petition asked for the high court to hear the appeals in the aforementioned matter as well as the pronouncement of the district and sessions courts’ reserved ruling.
Bushra had requested a ruling on her plea, which she had submitted at the sessions court with the intention of suspending her sentence.
The former first lady filed a motion with the IHC last week to have her sentence in the iddat case suspended.
It should be recalled that in January, Bushra’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka questioned the validity of the couple’s marriage and called their nikah phony, emphasizing that the union was formally sealed during her iddat, the period of seclusion a woman experiences following a divorce or the death of her spouse.
