After opening fire on a magistrate in a Nairobi court, a senior Kenyan police officer was shot and killed.
Shortly after Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti of Makadara issued a decision in a case that purportedly included his wife, the chief inspector opened fire on her.
The court’s decision to revoke her bail after she had fled is reported to have infuriated the officer.
The officer, named as Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, is in charge of a police station in Londiani, western Kenya, and he then shot the magistrate.
The offending cop was shot and killed by one of the other court officials, who arrived right away.
According to a police complaint, three more officers were hurt throughout the procedure.
“Cancelled the bond for an accused person who had jumped bond and had failed to offer satisfactory explanations for jumping bond,” the judiciary declared after the magistrate’s action.
It added in a statement, “A person shot at the magistrate and injured her on the hip immediately after this decision was made.”
The first reports that suggested “that the shooter is a police officer who is married to the suspect” were mentioned.
According to the National Police Service, the officer had “unknown reasons” for appearing in court.
