The officer works for the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection (RaSP) Command, which offers tight personal protection to members of the Royal Family and other VIPs.
News is aware that multiple wagers were made, at least one of which was for a three-figure amount.
The police officer was arrested a few days after it was revealed that Craig Williams, Mr. Sunak’s close parliamentary assistant, was being investigated for his wager on the July election date.
On Friday, June 14, the Gambling Commission notified the Met Police that they were looking into the police constable’s actions.
According to the Met, the officers in the force’s directorate of professional standards were tasked with investigating the incident right away. The officer was taken out of operational responsibilities as well.
“The officer was subsequently arrested on Monday, June 17, on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” the Met stated in a statement. He was arrested and released on bond until more investigation was conducted.
The authorities continued: “The Gambling Commission continues to lead the investigation into the alleged betting offences, and our investigation is running in parallel to that.”
“Investigating the possibility of offences concerning the date of the election” is what the Gambling Commission has stated it is doing.
