Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former striker for Manchester United, has had a conversation with Burnley over their managerial opening.
After leading the Clarets to relegation in the previous campaign, manager Vincent Kompany left in May to become a member of Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.
Sport is aware that former England internationals Frank Lampard and Scott Parker, as well as Dutchman Van Nistelrooy, have held discussions with the Turf Moor team, whose acting head coach is former Wales international Craig Bellamy.
The 47-year-old Van Nistelrooy is reportedly close to signing a multi-year contract, according to reports in the Netherlands, although this week’s announcement about the club’s decision is not anticipated.
His only prior experience in senior management was during his time as PSV Eindhoven’s Eredivisie second-place captain.
Before moving to Real Madrid in 2006, Van Nistelrooy scored 95 goals in 150 Premier League outings with the Red Devils after signing from PSV in 2001.
