Shazia Marri, the central information secretary for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), stated on Friday that her party is not coercing the center-right Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the federal budget.
The PML-N’s principal ally, the PPP, strongly objected to the budget that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had submitted earlier this month. The budget is for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
One of the party leaders had said that the PPP had not been contacted at all on the financial plan, while the other had stated that the PML-N had prepared the budget on its own.
As the days are running out, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in order to discuss their disagreements.
According to sources who spoke with Geo News, the prime minister was guaranteed by the PPP chairman that assistance would be extended to approve the budget, despite the latter’s objections. PM Shehbaz also promised to take care of his ally’s issues.
Speaking on the “Geo Pakistan” show on News, Marri stated that the prime minister’s discussions with the head of the PPP produced no significant results.
