The permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, called for action against terrorism and noted that, in spite of their assurances, the Taliban administration has not taken “decisive” action to stop the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from carrying out cross-border terrorist activities.
At a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, the envoy stated, “Elimination of terrorism within and from Afghanistan remains the highest priority for the international community, Afghanistan’s neighbors, and Afghanistan itself.”
The ambassador’s comments coincide with the fact that, according to the Centre for Research and Security Studies’ (CRSS) Annual Security Report, the nation’s total death toll from terrorist acts and counterterrorism operations hit a six-year high in January, with close to 1,000 dead.
