ISLAMABAD According to sources who spoke with News, the federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the actions made by the Central Apex Committee of the National Action Plan, including Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly promised that residents would not be harassed or have their homes raided during the operation.
“Only intelligence-based operations would be carried out against terrorists,” the sources cited the PM as saying.
The decision was made after the military operation—a nationwide counterterrorism campaign that has been reenergized and revitalized—was authorized by the Apex Committee last Saturday in order to intensify pressure on extremists who are attacking Pakistan.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), all parties involved, including the provinces and Gilgit, agreed to approve the new counterterrorism initiative.
Opposition parties, on the other hand, have expressed reservations about the military operation and have demanded that parliament be taken into confidence before making any decisions. These parties include the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the government would appease the PTI and other opposition parties on the military operation in order to resolve the matter.
