The oppressive summer heat is making things worse in Gaza, where Israel’s military operation has forced practically all 2.3 million people from their homes, leaving them without access to clean water or electricity.
In the midst of escalating rates of malnourishment and disease, families living in tents, packed shelters in UN schools, or pushed into private homes must contend with the rising summer temperatures without air conditioning, showers, or a working health system.
Amal Nsair, 38, worries that her family’s health would be harmed by the increased heat and humidity as well as the rise of mosquitoes and other insects in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip. Their classroom serves as a shelter shared by several families.
