Richard Cuevas said that on a critical component of a Boeing 787 airplane, he saw poor manufacturing and maintenance work.
Boeing stated that the problems had been looked at and “did not present a safety concern.” Concerns about whether the company’s safety culture is strict enough have dogged it.
Attorneys for Mr. Cuevas have filed complaints with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration, claiming that he disclosed important flaws that could pose a major risk to public safety.
Spirit Aerosystems hired Mr. Cuevas to work on it because of his forty years of experience in the aviation industry.

The attorneys for Mr. Cuevas stated that “he acknowledged the poor quality work and expressed concern.” However, neither Spirit nor Boeing were able to halt the flawed production methods.
Then, according to the court documents, one of our colleagues said, “We’ve got a snitch among us.”
According to Mr. Cuevas, Spirit Aerosystems fired him in March 2024.
Boeing released the information. We looked into the concerns that a subcontractor’s employee had previously brought to our attention since we take any issue pertaining to safety seriously.
