Wilson will make history as the youngest track athlete to represent the United States at the Olympics when she joins the 4×400-meter relay team. Prior to Erriyon Knighton (2021) at 17 years old, and Jim Ryun (1964), these two Americans were the youngest track competitors to compete in the Olympics.
Wilson said, “WE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS #paris2024 #teamusa,” on Instagram on Saturday.
While the squad hasn’t been formally revealed, Wilson’s coach Joe Lee said on Sunday to USA Today that “the call came directly to me from USA Track & Field.”
“Afterward, I gave Quincy the good news,” Lee went on.
At the U.S. Olympic trials in Oregon, Wilson, a great athlete for Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C., attracted attention when he not only broke the world record for under-18 runners in the 400 meters, but he also beat his own record time the same weekend.
On June 21, Wilson ran a 44.66-second 400 meters, shattering Justin Robinson’s previous record of 44.84 seconds. Then, on June 23, Wilson beat his own record with a time of 44.59 during the 400-meter semifinals.
