While the suspect received treatment for wounds and was detained pending a mental health evaluation, the 22-year-old victim was brought to the hospital in a stable state.
A kitchen knife was found at the site, and the adolescent who is suspected of carrying out the attack was described as donning a “camouflage defence force uniform.”

Before being detained, he took a bus from the University of Sydney to a local hospital.
While confirming that the youngster was known to the police and other government entities, acting assistant commissioner Mark Walton withheld any additional information.

He continued, “The internet is poisonous, and it’s very simple for young people in particular to self-radicalise and turn violent.”

There is yet no evidence linking this incident to the 16-year-old teenager accused of stabbing a bishop in Sydney during a ceremony in mid-April.

Following the stabbing on Tuesday, campus buildings were placed under lockdown. However, a police operation has concluded, allowing access to all locations.

According to a University of Sydney statement, “the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and members of the community are our priority and we continue to work with authorities.”
