Another cricketer of Pakistani descent, Antum Naqvi, joined Zimbabwe following his first-ever call-up for the five-match Twenty20 International series against India in Harare.
The 25-year-old batter’s place in the starting lineup, though, is contingent upon his citizenship being verified.
As the first player to make a triple century for any Zimbabwean side in representative cricket, Naqvi, a top-order batsman, gained notoriety at the start of the year.
In just his second year of Zimbabwean domestic cricket, he captained the Mid West Rhinos and hit an undefeated 300 for them in the Logan Cup.
Naqvi has played seven T20 matches and has a strike rate of 146.80. His parents are Pakistani, and he was born in Brussels, Belgium.
Naqvi is the second player with Pakistani ancestry on the Zimbabwe team. Leading the team in the series is Sikandar Raza, the first member of Pakistan to be included in the Zimbabwean squad.

The batter has also participated in Lahore Qalandars’ player development program for the Australian Queen series.
Notably, Zimbabwe was unable to secure a spot in the just concluded T20 World Cup 2024.
From July 6–14, Zimbabwe and India will play five Twenty20 International matches.
