Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has ‘welcomed’ the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s statement indicating that he will attend the crucial meeting and has confirmed media reports that the federal government intends to hold an all-parties conference (APC) to develop a broader consensus on the recently launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called an APC meeting “to gain political parties’ confidence as the opposition parties have voiced concerns over the new operation and demanded the government to take parliament into confidence before launching any counterterrorism drive,” according to News citing sources, which was followed by the minister’s confirmation the next day.
“Consultation with the allies is underway, for sure, to call the APC regarding [Operation] Azm-e-Istehkam,” the information minister stated at Friday’s news briefing in Islamabad.
In accordance with the Central Apex Committee of the National Action Plan’s proposals to eradicate militancy from the nation, the federal cabinet this week authorized the start of the counterterrorism operation.
The nation’s total violent crime rate dropped by 12%, with 380 deaths reported in the first quarter of this year as opposed to 432 in the previous year, according to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security report.
