ISLAMABAD: Senator Ali Zafar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) disclosed on Monday that the party will declare its candidates within the following twenty-four hours.
The senator stated to Geo News that 98%–99% of those seeking to run for office on a PTI ticket had received confirmation from the party. He continued by saying that only 2% of seats need a decision to be made.
“The selection of candidates for each seat in the elections has been approved. Senator Zafar stated that the candidates would be revealed either today or tomorrow. He went on to say that the judgment will be made public following the ruling of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The PTI chief said that many attorneys have been granted tickets to run in the elections. He did clarify, though, that there is no correlation between the number of tickets given to party employees and attorneys.
In just one month, the nation will have elections, although most political parties still haven’t finalized their slate of candidates.
In the meantime, Jahangir Tareen’s Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) in Punjab, and PTI dissidents are putting pressure on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to make accommodations for them.
The PTI, on the other hand, claims it is being targeted and has been calling for fair play. The party is also having trouble with the “bat,” which serves as its election symbol.
It has also filed a plea with the Supreme Court contesting the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) ruling from January 3 that took away the party’s well-known election emblem.
PHC overturned the stay order issued by its one-member bench on January 3, upholding the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling that the PTI’s intra-party polls were invalid and that the party had lost its election symbol. However, the PTI appealed the decision to the highest court.
