Twice this season, rookie sensation Paul Skenes was forced to withdraw from a no-hit bid.

On Thursday, Paul Skenes had another opportunity to make history, but he was once more denied the opportunity to complete the task.

The rookie phenom was lifted from his 11th major league start on Thursday after pitching seven scoreless innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In his 99 pitches, Skenes hit one hitter, walked one, and struck out eleven.
Despite throwing 100 pitches in his second big league start, he had a no-hitter through six innings, marking the second time he had carried a no-hitter far into a game.

this was 1-0 for his Pittsburgh Pirates when he was removed from the game.

Skenes threw a career-high 102 pitches in his last outing on June 29 and 107 pitches in his most recent outing.

Skenes finished the seventh inning on just six pitches, but given his strikeout ability, it’s possible that he would have required far more than 120 pitches to get the job done.

beingselectedAfter selecting him first overall by the Pirates in the previous season, he broke out in the minor leagues and was called up in May. At this point, he’s already being considered the best pitcher in the league.

Skenes made history earlier this month when he was chosen for an All-Star Game the year after being drafted, making history.

He reduced his ERA to 1.90 on Thursday, but he hasn’t yet tossed enough innings to be eligible for the ERA title (one inning pitched every team game), and it’s unlikely that he will.
