After tracking prices, sales, and market share at supermarket checkouts for the previous month, Kantar Worldpanel’s grocery inflation index dropped from 2.1% to 1.6% in the four weeks leading up to July 7.
This resulted in the figure falling to its lowest point since September 2021 and the monthly rate declining for the 17th time in a row from its peak, which was reached in the months following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to Kantar, the sectors with the fastest price increases were vitamins, minerals, and supplements, as well as chilled fruit juices. The categories with the fastest price declines were dog food, butter, and toilet paper.
As last month’s research pointed out, supermarket promotions to draw football fans during Euro 2024 heightened rivalry between chains in categories including alcohol and snacks.
Trips to the store increased by 2% during the four-week period when compared to the same period last year, according to Kantar.
