Kaspersky stated that it had decided to go because “business opportunities in the country are no longer viable,” calling it a “sad and difficult decision.”
As stated by Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo last month, Moscow’s control over the corporation put US infrastructure and services in grave danger.
Kaspersky, a company with two decades of experience operating in the US, has denied the accusations.
The company released a statement saying, “Starting from July 20, 2024, Kaspersky will gradually wind down its US operations and eliminate US-based positions.”
Its cybersecurity and antivirus products are no longer available on its US website.
The declaration followed the US government’s decision to outlaw the distribution and sale of Kaspersky products.
According to Ms. Raimondo, Russia’s “capacity and… intent to collect and weaponize the personal information of Americans” forced the US to take action.
Among other things, Kaspersky will typically no longer be able to sell its software inside the US or offer upgrades for software that is currently in use, according to the Commerce Department.
