RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Monday that a Pakistan Army soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The military’s propaganda wing said that the security forces successfully tracked down the terrorists and captured one of them, who was hurt.

But after fighting valiantly, Havildar Muhammad Zahir, 41, of District Mardan, accepted Shahadat during a fierce firefight.

The ISPR said that a sanitization effort was underway to get rid of any terrorists they may have discovered nearby.

The statement said, “The Security Forces of Pakistan are committed to eliminating the threat of terrorism, and such heroic sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.”

The areas most afflicted by terrorism include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and Tank; places affected by terror include Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan, according to figures released by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs KP.
