KARACHI: A representative for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced on Friday that the remains of the four Pakistanis who perished in an uncommon assault at a mosque in Muscat, Oman, have been returned home.
The attack, which Pakistan described as a “dastardly” terror strike and for which the terrorist group Daesh claimed credit, happened on Monday night at the Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in the Wadi al-Kabir neighborhood of Muscat.
The three gunmen, who were all Omani nationals, “were killed due to their insistence on resisting security personnel,” according to the Royal Oman Police. They were brothers. According to the statement, police inquiries had shown that the three gunmen had been “influenced by misguided ideas”.
The gunmen killed six people: a police officer, an Indian, and four citizens of Pakistan. The PIA said in the statement that Syed Qaiser’s remains had been carried to Karachi and will subsequently be conveyed to Lahore. The remains of Suleman Nawaz have been sent to Lahore, and those of Ghulam Abbas and Hasan Abbas have been moved to Islamabad.
