FAISALABAD: A video showing a madrassa teacher severely hitting a student has gone viral, sparking outrage on social media in yet another regrettable instance of corporal punishment.

The event occurred in the Thikriwala district of Faisalabad, and on Friday it was revealed that the police had filed a first information report (FIR) in response to the boy’s father Rashid’s complaint.

The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Sections 328A (exposure and abandonment of a child under the age of twelve by a parent or caregiver) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) were invoked in the filing of the complaint.

The father states in the FIR that on July 24, for an undisclosed cause, the instructor, Muhammad Rizwan, a cleric at the Jamia Ghousia Rizvia, began beating his son. When the teacher heard pleas from two other pupils, Munawwar and Mohammed Raza, to stop beating the student, he released him.

According to the FIR, Rizwan became enraged and began abusing the father when he questioned the madrassa teacher about his activities.
