Don’t give Israel “licence to kill,” according to Lebanon’s foreign minister, following a fatal football pitch incident.

The missile strike on a football field in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights has been denounced by Lebanon's foreign minister, but she added that it does not give Israel a "license to kill.".

Hezbollah, supported by Iran, has refuted claims that it was behind the strike that left 20 people wounded and 12 children and teenagers dead. Israel and the US have blamed Hezbollah for the attack.

The rocket launched from Lebanon that crashed on a football field in Majdal Shams, a hamlet located seven miles south of Lebanon and close to the Syrian border, on Saturday, according to the Israeli military, was the worst attack on civilians since the Hamas attack on October 7.

Latest news from the Middle East: Hezbollah claims to have struck a kibbutz in northern Israel.

Abdallah Bou Habib, Lebanon’s foreign minister, spoke to News’ Alex Crawford and asked for a UN probe, but he stated Hezbollah had “no logic” in being behind it.
Regardless of the circumstances, the government opposes the killing of civilians, no matter who they are, where they are, in the Middle East, or anywhere else in the globe,” he declared.

We therefore denounce this occurrence since it involved young men who were playing football or something similar, as well as civilians.
