ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released a warning emphasizing that monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal are anticipated to enter the country’s central and southern regions on July 27 and likely stay there until August 3.

Furthermore, from July 28 to August 4, significant to substantial rainfall is predicted in the upper catchment areas of the nation’s western and eastern rivers.

“Flash flooding is expected in Northeastern parts of Punjab, including the Upper KP province’s Mardan, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Shangla, and Malakand; as well as the Neelum Valley, Muzafarabad, Rawalkot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, and Bhimber; and the Deg, Basemter, and Bein nullahs of the River Ravi, Aik, and Palku areas in the Chenab’s catchment.”

The Jhelum River upstream of Mangla, Kabul, and its tributaries, as well as the Chenab near Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad, are predicted to have low to medium level flow.

In addition, higher flows are anticipated in the Nullahs of Zhob and low to medium-level flows in the River Indus at Tarbela and the hill torrents of the DG Khan division.

Urban flooding is anticipated in the southern regions of Sindh, which includes Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sanghar, S Benazirabad, and Karachi, as well as in the northern and northeastern parts of Punjab, which include Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Gujrat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, and surrounding areas.

All relevant departments have received orders from the NDMA to take the required safety measures to lessen the potential effects of flooding and harsh weather.
