RAWALPINDI: In a case involving Toshakhana, an accountability court in Rawalpindi has decided to prolong the 10-day physical detention of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his spouse, Bushra Bibi.
After their prior seven-day remand expired, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) brought the pair before the court and gave the judge a progress report on the newly filed case.
NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and the case’s investigating deputy director, Mohsin Haroon, were present at the hearing.
Salman Safdar, the defense attorney, objected to the team of the anti-graft body’s request for an extension of remand at the hearing.
During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor general and the former prime minister who is currently incarcerated got into a fight.Imran stated, “My wife has no links with the Toshakhana, why is she being punished?” and mentioned that the former first lady had not held any official office during his time as prime.
“The NAB officials are sellouts who would do anything for money,” he said.
Abbasi was outraged by Imran’s comments and advised him “not to get personal with me” when discussing the case.
He claimed not to have talked about anything “personal” involving the PTI founder.
The NAB prosecutor made reference to the state gifts that the former prime minister had received from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and he challenged Imran to purchase a whole dinner and tea set for Rs30,000 at Raja Bazar in Rawalpindi.
