A fake quote tricked tennis star Coco Gauff into believing she was dressed like Serena Williams for the 2024 Australian Open, when pictures of her appeared on social media in the run-up to the competition.
At the Melbourne Slam on Sunday, the American is expected to wear two pieces from the New Balance x Australian Open collection.
According to Sportskeeda, the first has a yellow top and skirt with a navy outline, while the second is the opposite—a navy top and skirt with yellow accents.
Using an image of Williams in a uniform with a comparable color scheme and a comment ascribed to Gauff, the 19-year-old US Open champion’s admirer tricked tennis fans into thinking that Williams was the inspiration for the ensemble. Gauff expressed her wish to embrace her “inner Serena” with the outfit.
“I really wanted to embrace my inner Serena with this kit. This one is for her since she inspires me both on and off the court. It even has her little crop top,” the fan wrote on X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter.
