This week, the National Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s largest music and poetry festivals, showcases the country of song’s abilities.
However, financial cuts have generated fears about the future of the country’s artistic sector.
Proposals from the Welsh National Opera (WNO) would see its orchestra become part-time and musicians’ salaries reduced by 15%.
More than 11,000 individuals have signed a petition urging for the proposals to be withdrawn.
Llinos Owen, 42, has been the orchestra’s sub-principal bassoon since 2022.
Ms Owen, who is originally from Pwllheli, Gwynedd, was looking forward to returning to Wales.
However, she told News that she may now have to relocate to further her career.
“I’m going to Glasgow next week to audition for a position there because there isn’t enough freelance work in Cardiff,” she explained.
“It’s not like living in London, the Leeds-Manchester corridor, or between Glasgow and Edinburgh, where there is a lot of freelance work and more full-time bands seeking freelancers.
