According to Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), his party will not join the grand alliance that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has offered because past experiences have shown that opposition parties utilize these platforms for personal gain.

During Thursday’s “Capital Talk” segment on News, Naeem declared, “We will hold meetings with the opposition parties and have the same stance on some issues, but we will not become part of any alliance.”

Asad Qaiser, the senior leader of the PTI, stated that the party’s founder, Imran Khan, who is now incarcerated, approved of the formation of a “grand opposition alliance” and that they would “gather all opposition parties to run a powerful anti-government movement”.

The PTI leader added that they back JI’s sit-in in opposition to the significant increase in power. The JI is also demonstrating against high taxes and increased electricity bills by staging street demonstrations. In an effort to put an end to its sit-in in Rawalpindi, the administration is interacting with the party to address its concerns.

The JI emir stated that parties that are a part of an opposition alliance eventually behave in their own self-interest, which harms the cause, in an interview with “Capital Talk” anchor Hamid Mir.

Hafiz Naeem, who was named JI’s top leader in April, stated, “The government also thinks that we came here for a day or two, but let me tell them: we will not leave until our demands are met.”
