ISLAMABAD: In an unprecedented move, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has advised all of the nation’s health departments to ensure that antibiotic medications are only supplied with a qualified medical practitioner’s prescription.
The News stated that the instruction has been sent to the health departments of the four provinces: Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and ICT.
The advise was released, according to DRAP authorities on Friday, to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and to regulate the dangerous practice of self-medication.
According to them, self-medication may result in the abuse and overuse of antibiotics, escalating resistance and decreasing the effectiveness of significant medications.
