DERA ISMAIL KHAN/PESHAWAR: The News said on Saturday that two police officers lost their lives after militants attacked a convoy of judges at a crossroads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, between Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.

As per the sources, the terrorists were reportedly waiting to launch an attack on the police team assigned to guard the judges in South Waziristan and Tank.

Senior Civil Judge Mahjabeen, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Tank, Malik Husnain, Additional District and Sessions Judge, South Waziristan, Malik Asghar, and Additional District and Sessions Judge, Tank, were returning to DI Khan following their shift at the camp office in Tank when twenty to twenty-five armed men opened fire on their security unit.In the attack, two police officers—Abdul Samad and Abdullah—were martyred, while numerous others were hurt. The judges, meanwhile, managed to flee the attack unscathed.

The assailants were forced to retreat when the other squad members returned fire. According to sources, the insurgents and police exchanged gunfire for about thirty minutes.

It is reported that the three judges are from DI Khan. The terrorists stole a police van and carried it to Tank’s Cheena village, where they set it on fire.

In the meantime, following the attack on judges, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) called the chief secretary of the provincial police force and the assistant chief secretary home on Monday to discuss enhanced security for the court personnel.
