Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has come under heavy fire from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for his “conditional apology” remarks, which implied that his party was complicit in the May 9 riots.

“They [riots] were organized by them [..] Senior PML-N politician and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s adviser on political and public affairs Rana Sanaullah stated on Wednesday on the show “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” on Geo News that “He [Khan] knows that his people are in the [CCTV] videos [of attacks]”.

The PTI founder said on Wednesday that he was demanding a conditional apology for the May 9 riots and that CCTV video of the violent protests ought to have been made available earlier. This coincides with the former minister’s comments. The former prime minister told reporters in a makeshift courtroom inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail that he would offer an apology if it was discovered that PTI activists were involved in the May 9 riots, which resulted in attacks on military installations across the nation and forced the military and civil leadership to prosecute the rioters under the Army Act.

The PTI leader, who has been detained in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for almost a year, has repeatedly distanced his organization from the demonstrations and claimed that they were orchestrated and prearranged in order to begin an opposition party crackdown.
