Two-time pregnant mother Syeda Sania Zehra, 20, was discovered dead in Multan more than a month ago. On Monday, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari declared that Zehra’s death was a homicide rather than a suicide.

Zehra passed away on July 9th, the day she was discovered hanging near her ceiling fan at home.

“No evidence of suicide has been found in the Sania Zehra case,” the provincial information minister stated today during a press conference in Lahore. The girl’s neck was bound together with a rope by her mother-in-law and husband.”

Two days after the Punjabi government formed a six-person committee to supervise the investigation into the murder case, the minister disclosed the information. The committee, made up of forensic specialists, was established in response to inconsistencies discovered in the FIR’s contents and victim’s post-mortem report, adding fuel to controversies.

The committee was tasked with monitoring the investigation on a daily basis.
