The former European Cup champions’ Cup and two-time Uefa Cup champions will welcome Fiorentina on Saturday as they make their comeback to Italy’s top division after three seasons in Serie B.
Not only are their supporters thrilled about this, but nostalgia for the 1990s will also rejoice. The rebirth of Parma evokes memories of iconic uniforms and renowned players like Faustino Asprilla, Gigi Buffon, Hernan Crespo, Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram, Gianfranco Zola, and Hristo Stoichkov.
Although Parma has been in Serie A previously, there is hope that they will stay there this time.
The legendary Arrigo Sacchi was instrumental in Parma’s ascent. When he took over as coach in 1985, the team was in the third division. They were promoted to Serie B during his first season. In his second, they nearly gained promotion to Serie A and eliminated AC Milan from the Coppa Italia. In the process, he helped to develop promising players like Walter Bianchi, Roberto Mussi, and Mario Bortolazzi before bringing them to Milan in 1987, when Silvio Berlusconi gave him the position.
