KARACHI: Leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Mustafa Kamal offered a plan on Saturday to lower the price of power, while also demanding a consistent pricing for electricity across the nation.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, the MQM-P leader stated, “Instead of blocking the arteries, we presented the government with a solution to resolve the issue of inflated electricity bills.”
He asserted that Pakistan could produce more than 45,000 megawatts of electricity, therefore it had more electricity than it needed. But the transmission networks in the nation could only carry 22–25,000 megawatts, he claimed.
In summary, Kamal proposed that the government engage in dialogue with the 30% of local and 50% of public independent power producers (IPPs) in order to provide relief to the people, excluding the 20% of international companies.
