When Matthew Perry was struggling with addiction, Friends offered him a break.
The popular sitcom’s creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, acknowledged they were aware of Perry’s difficulties with substance misuse in a recent interview with The Times.
Crane revealed that they offered Perry the choice to take a break from filming in order to concentrate on his treatment as soon as they learned about his drug problems.
“By the time we became aware of it, we were already a family on a lot of levels,” he stated.
Crane continued, “At one point, we asked him if he wanted to cease appearing in the show. And he was rather insistent about saying, “No, this is very important to me.”
Perry, well-known for playing Chandler Bing, struggled with addiction.
