On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) overwhelmingly chose Jay Shah, the honorary secretary of the BCCI, to serve as its new independent chair.
Shah, the home minister of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s son, will take over as the esteemed ICC chairman on December 1, 2024, the ICC announced.
This is the result of Greg Barclay, the current ICC Chair, deciding not to run for a third term and resigning at the conclusion of his term in November of this year. Shah was the only candidate for the position, and his election signifies a significant change in the global cricket governing body’s leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Shah emphasized his commitment to increasing the popularity and exposure of the game, especially in light of cricket’s inclusion in the 2018.
