The show centers on jailbirds Norman and Lennie as they encounter the harsh realities of incarceration while encircled by prison guards and small-time offenders.
Written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the program aired for three seasons from 1974 and 1977. A big-screen version and a follow-up series, Going Straight, were also produced.
La Frenais continued: “So it was agreed with Ronnie and ourselves that we would write a comedy set in prison.”
