Wade Wilson, dubbed the “Deadpool killer” due to his name being similar to the Marvel character portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the film series, was given a sentence by a Florida court on Tuesday.
Wilson, who had earlier in the afternoon declined to address the Lee County court, sat silent during his sentencing while the spectators cheered and applauded, according to the Independent.
He was convicted in June of killing Diane Ruiz and Kristine Melton, both residents of the same state, on October 6, 2019, in the city of Cape Coral.
According to the New York Post (NYP), he received the death punishment for both offenses.
“The evidence shows the murders were heinous, atrocious and cruel,” Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson said the court, adding that Ms. Ruiz’s second murder was “cold, calculated and premeditated.”
According to the news, Judge Thompson declared that Wilson’s acts were so terrible that he could find “no basis” to overturn the jury’s recommendation for the death penalty.
According to Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner, the 30-year-old killed the women “for the sake of killing”; he had a swastika tattooed on his face.
After meeting at a live music bar, Wilson first strangled Melton, 35, in her Cape Coral home, where her body was discovered.
