The Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act 2024, the Punjab Prevention of Hoarding Act 2020, and the Colonization of Government Lands (Punjab) Act 1912 are the three acts that the Punjab Enforcement and Regulation Act (PERA) 2024 seeks to enforce. The act is scheduled to be considered by a standing committee this Friday.
It should be noted, nevertheless, that the three legislation that are already scheduled include provisions for enforcement.
The proposed bill gives the authority to set up “enforcement stations” in addition to conventional police stations. These stations would enable enforcement officers to carry out the fundamental duties of law enforcement, which include inspections, patrols, searches of any person or vehicle, seizures of property, and arrests.
