Since Andy Murray in 2016, Draper is the first British player to advance to the men’s singles quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows.
“I felt like I did the fundamentals pretty well,” Draper stated to news.
“I was pretty clinical at times and raised my level when necessary, but that was about it.
After leading all three of their prior meetings, Czech Machac was defeated in just one hour and forty-four minutes by a laser-focused Draper.
Since some well-known players—most notably Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz—have already lost their opening sets in the competition, Draper has every reason to think he can win it all.
The 6′ 4in left-hander has had an incredible year, winning his first ATP championship in Stuttgart and defeating Wimbledon winner Alcaraz at Queen’s. This was a statement performance for him.
