The conflict between India and Pakistan began on September 4, 1965, and on that day, both sides’ military operations grew more intense. China’s foreign minister backed Pakistan and accused India of aggressiveness, while Indian foreign minister Indira Gandhi vowed to use force to end the country’s conflict with Pakistan over Kashmir.

The military of Pakistan adopted a defensive stance toward India. Admiral Afzal Rahman Khan, the Chief of navy Staff, gave the command for navy vessels to assume defensive positions around maritime boundaries. The Pakistan Navy readied PNS Ghazi, a long-range submarine, to track Indian naval maneuvers and fend off any possible threats from vessels such as INS Mysore and INS Delhi.

Under the command of Second Lieutenant Shabir Sharif, a platoon from the 6 Frontier Force Regiment assaulted a significant Indian position in Troti within the Jaurian sector.
