The rapper and country music icon known as “Jelly Roll,” Jason DeFord, spoke on Thursday before the Senate’s Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, advocating for more legislation to combat the ongoing fentanyl issue in the country.
During the committee’s “Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl: Public Awareness and Legislative Solutions” hearing, DeFord began his testimony by presenting statistics on the rising number of drug overdose and fentanyl-related deaths in the nation. He also outlined his bipartisan stance as he advocates for a cause that is close to his heart.
“This committee, I’ve been to more funerals than I would like to admit to you. Regarding the caskets I’ve carried of people I love truly, profoundly, in my soul, I could sit here and grieve for days.
