Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was shot in the head on Friday during a demonstration against the growth of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian and Turkish officials. The incident occurred in the town of Beita, close to Nablus.
Israel stated troops had “responded with fire toward a main instigator of violent activity who hurled rocks at the forces and posed a threat to them.”.
The secretary general of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, called for a “full investigation” and for persons to “be held accountable” on Friday. He also stated that “civilians must be must be protected at all levels.”
Ms. Eygi’s family expressed their “shock and grief” in an Instagram statement, stating that “she was gentle, brave, silly, supportive, and a ray of sunshine.”.
The family of Ms. Eygi, a volunteer at the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), described her as a “strong, beautiful, and nourishing human rights activist” who was “taken needlessly, unlawfully, and violently by the Israeli military.”
