The criminal case was scheduled to result in a punishment for Trump, the Republican contender for president, on September 18.
Judge Juan M. Merchan of Manhattan, however, has now rescheduled that date for November 26 in order to allay any unfounded suspicions that he was acting politically.

He was found guilty of concealing the $130,000 (£99,000) that his former attorney paid porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her quiet on a ten-year-old alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump prior to the 2016 election.
The 77-year-old Trump has pledged to challenge the verdict if he is punished and disputes the encounter.
