On Tuesday, Conservative Members of Parliament conducted a second round of voting to further choose the party’s nominee.
After leading the field in the first round of voting, former immigration minister Robert Jenrick won the most votes a second time with 33, followed by former business secretary Kemi Badenoch with 28.
James Cleverly, the former home secretary, and Tom Tugendhat, the former security minister, each garnered 21 votes.
Mr. Stride tweeted following the voting that he had “really enjoyed the journey” of seeking the party’s leadership. He continued, saying, “Our party’s values still run deep and strong.” We’ll win out in due course.
Later this month, the top four candidates will travel to Birmingham for the Tory conference, where they will hold hustings in an effort to win over party supporters.
After that, MPs have one more vote to narrow the field to just two contenders, and the entire membership then selects the victor.
On November 2, the new leader is then anticipated to be revealed.
Just moments after the vote, Mr. Jenrick expressed his “deep gratitude” to his supporters and everyone who had paid attention to his plea for “change” within the party in an interview with News.
