Craig’s six months of suspension will be suspended “contingent upon meeting conduct and behavioural requirements” after serving half of the term.
The 29-year-old will be available for the 2025 national men’s squad, which is scheduled to be announced at the end of the year, according to Hockey Australia, which stated that the ban started on September 9.
Days after Australia lost their quarter-final match in Paris, Craig was held by French police for allegedly trying to acquire cocaine. He was later released without charge but with a warning from a judge.
“Craig is required to complete mandatory training and education programmes as part of his sanction,”
Throughout his suspension, Tom will have access to all of the athlete support services offered by our program. His well-being continues to be our top concern.”
After being released from detention, Craig said he had “made a terrible mistake” and apologized to his friends, family, teammates, and the Australian Olympic team.
Craig, according to Australia’s chef de mission Anna Meares, is “a good person who made a bad decision”.
Craig has played more than 100 games for Australia, which included a silver medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
