The Awami Muslim League’s leader, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has called for the Speaker to bring the case to the Privileges Committee and has criticized the Speaker’s handling of former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s detention within the Parliament building, calling it a “violation of privilege.”
Speaking today on “Spotlight,” Abbasi said that although the Speaker’s decision to form a special committee was understandable, the matter ought to have been brought before the Privileges Committee, which ought to have called in the Inspector General and all pertinent officials right once.
He stressed that the National Assembly has explicit regulations that were willfully broken and that this was not the work of a special committee.
