One of Lewis’ three wildcard selections for the match against Europe at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on Friday is Thompson, one of the biggest names in women’s golf during the last ten years.
After declaring her retirement from professional golf, the 29-year-old is competing in her seventh and last tournament. Lewis, who competed with Thompson in three past editions, claims that Thompson has come to be associated with the competition.
Lewis stated, “Her legacy is her and the Solheim Cup.”
“This is how she interacts with the audience and her admirers.
Here, she improves her game and gains greater enthusiasm for the game. She would stop at nothing to win, and I wish I had twelve of her.
Since being professional in 2010, Thompson has won fifteen times. The 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship, which is now known as the Chevron Championship, is where she won her sole major championship.
She has 12½ points from her 23 matches in the Solheim Cup, including three of four in the exciting 14–14 draw in Spain last year that saw Europe win the trophy again.
Lewis continued, “She’s one of those people you could literally pair with anybody.”
“Losing her is a huge vacuum. All I can say is that whoever becomes the next captain has to get her on board as an assistant.
